Rooted in Cumbria

The Federation of Cumbria Commoners is a member-led organisation dedicated to promoting commoning in Cumbria. Our overall aim is to maintain and improve the viability of hill farming on common land.

We want this website to:

  • Inform you about new issues in commoning
  • Let you know what we are doing
  • Make our voice heard all over the world and much more

New CRC Upland Report

The Commission for Rural Communities upland report, published today, provides a ringing endorsement of the importance of hill farming to the identity and character of the English Uplands.

Visit to the uplands of northern Spain, May 2010

Three members of our committee were recently invited on a tour to look at common land farming systems in Northern Spain. Our group was privileged to meet a number of farmers and various environmentalists, researchers and administrators with whom they were collaborating.

This project was part-funded by the European Forum on Nature Conservation and Pastoralism as part of their 2010 work programme supported by the European Commission (DG Environment) under the Life+ NGO support grant.
